 Abstract

Background. Modern technological changes that determine the image of information society primarily affect the consciousness and then manifest in the individual and collective behavior and thereby influence the nature of social life. The goal of the study is to consider the influence of in-formatization and digitalization on the consciousness of modern person from the standpoint of phenomenological (aimed at analyzing pure structures of thinking) and social and phenomenological (consisting in considering social reality in terms of phenomenology) approaches and to find ways to optimize a person’s position in these conditions. Materials and methods. The borderline anthropological foundations for considering the consciousness in this study are Orthodox theological ideas about the soul and mind. The basis for analyzing the patterns in the activity of the consciousness and its transformations in information society was the conceptual ideas of E. Husserl, as well as P. Berger, T. Luckmann and A. Schutz. Results. The study examines the phenomenological interpretation of the consciousness, identifies the mechanisms of the digitalization impact on the individual and public consciousness, reveals the ambivalence and uncertainty of a person’s position in information society, proposes the ways to mitigate the negative effects of digitalization on persons and their consciousness. Conclusions. Digital mass media lead to changes in the activity of the consciousness to comprehend the world. This affects identity, morals and values and human behavior, which leads to social entropy. Therefore, it becomes important to devote greater attention of the state and educational organizations to the areas of spirituality and morality, as well as to the development of digital culture and media literacy.
